I haven't used the grid when, so I'm not sure what might be going on. But, I'd guess that it's *somewhat* reasonable since once the grid get's focus, one of it's contained controls is getting focus. IOW, the grid when might reliably fire if you always click first on a blank row.

Instead, you could try enabling/disabling the grid based on whatever condition you are using for the when. That is, if I'm guessing correctly about what you're trying to do :).
