Thanks for the comments. I talked with a fellow in my office and he says there is no known case of a grizzly attacking a party of more than two people. I don't know if that is true, but it would obviously be very rare. Certainly I didn't ever think we were being attacked. It was more like being joined for a nice walk. It becomes more incredible the more I think about it.

I guess though bears have the power to commit untold mayhem and destruction, it doesn't mean that they very often choose to do it. This bear seemed to have a gentle, if not overly curious personality. Maybe he's learned to add in just the right amount of wariness. I hope he survives a long time in his habitat.
