Because DDE will not be supported in the future. IMHO, OLE automation is easier to use and more OOPish.
If you have something working with DDE, let it be. But if you are developing a new app, use OLE instead.
>As always, I may be wrong, but I think OLE uses way much more resources than DDE. If it works using DDE, why use OLE automation?
