I have been testing VPE as a way to write reports. It appears to be very flexible and fast. After creating the report you can manipulate it and make changes to it from within VPE. This allows you to add fancy headers or enter footers with "Page 1 of xx" etc. The basic run time file is only 300kb. I am considering purchasing a full working copy and wondered if anyone else has used this product and what there experience has been. If you want to check it out see www.idealsoftware.com.

I am using version 3.0. It does have a number of handy device setting functions so you can select the printer, orientation, start and end page, number of copies, paper bin etc. in code. It has a distributable document viewer of 30kb.
