>XML will open up big opportunities for VFP developers. A really great app which was demoed at the DevCon99 Bonus session can be download from
http://www.seattlevfp.org. It's called stockwatch and demostrates retrieving Stock quotes for MSNBC. It'll convince anyone that looks at it that VFP is ideal tool for collecting and storing data
AS of DevCon, Stockwatch was not using XML. The parsing would have been much easier if MSNBC had published it's stock data in XML, but they don't yet.
I actually wrote a program similar to this a couple of months ago, but it was grabbing data from my online broker's site. Specifiy a ticker, and the program would automate IE to log into the secure site, enter the specified ticker, and parse the stock price out of the resulting page. This whole process was run by a timer that would grab the price every minute and append the results into a history table that could be graphed.
