I don't think there's a hard and fast rule. I had a small vfp5 app running in Win95 on 486-75s with 16 RAM reasonably well, at least it seemed fast a couple years ago (it's all relative). My large vfp5 app ran fairly well on P90s with 16 RAM, and it flies on P300s with 32 RAM, in general...

The big exception: complex data processing on tables too large to fit into memory. Both processing speed and lack of memory slowed the app for a few special users down to a crawl on 90s, better with the 300s, but now blazingly fast with P400s and 128 RAM...

The big key to all this is testing under real-data situations...find the worst possible machine you expect your app might have to run under, and see how it does, basically...
