Continuing my quest to learn the more intricate aspects of VFP (5.0 variety)...

Does anyone know of any reference document which might (more) clearly outline the differences of capabilities between database-resident tables and FREE tables???

It is reasonably clear to me that things like field/row validation, triggers (including R/I) are NOT available to free tables.
But I completely lose it when it comes to things like:
1) buffering options available
2) including free tables in views
3) other things?? (like would CURVAL(), OLDVAL(), TABLEUPDATE(), GETFLDSTATE() etc work on free tables?) (Does CURSORSETPROP() work on free tables?)

For test purposes I created a free table and used it exclusively on a test form. The only option available to me on the Property sheet regarding buffering was BufferMode, allowing "0 - default???", "1-pessimistic" and "2 - optimistic" and the Help suggested that, unless it was a GRID, row-buffering was enforced.

I guess that I am badly hampered by VFP's choice to refer to both free and database tables as "tables" without differentiation (that I can discern).

Thanking you in advance
Jim N.
