We try to work with generic text only driver but with no good results.
So we are using diferent way to achieve text only report on dot printers.
We create graphic report definition we use report to ascii command and in next step we convert ascii file (to achieve better layout) and copy it to printer.
Result are quite good(?) - but in this way we also don't have total control on printout layout. We are doing so because we don't want to have two different report definitions - first for graphic and second for text only printers.
End user with dot printer can choose, text (quick and not pretty) printout
or (nice and slow) graphic printout.

I know that I am not answering your qestions, but maybe in a way it will be helpfull to you.

Greetings.

Eg. we have the 2 fields of identical size the same horizontal position but different vertical positions in the header band of a report. The first field prints ok but the second field prints at column 1 on a new line. Other fields will also print in the wrong position for no discernible reason, even though they are displayed in correctly via "preview" at run time.
