According to the ODBC Data Source Administrator, the old ODBC driver is installed, but it appears that the new Data Access protocol requires the use of "DSN" The Data Source Administrator will not allow me to give a name to the old driver. It gives me an error message that "The Microsoft FoxPro driver is no longer supported and has been replaced by the Microsoft Visual FoxPro driver." Unfortunately, it appears that no one has told Word 97 and Excel 97 how to deal with that replacement.

I have had a great of advice to re-install various things (Office plus it's two patches, Visual Studio plus its patch) but I am loath to do so until I can confirm that on the other side of that onerous chore, I won't find myself in exactly the same place a day later.
