>It is a data entry screen, and the date is copied from the text box of the preceding record. As the user adjusts the date on the current record, they usually do not want to change the year -- in other words, we want the user to type 0622 and press enter [and have this represent 06/22/99]. If they do need to change the year however, they only have to enter 6 digits [not 8 as with a 4 digit year]. We are currently using set century and rollover. And would like to keep using this.

Try turning the .Century property off on the textbox (assuming this is VFP5/6)
