>My motivation is simple: I like to avoid installation headaches. Since Fox 2.0 I've had a universal startup program which works with any app I write. The main idea was to automatically, at startup, copy down newer APPs or EXEs from the server, so that I never had to install updates on machines. I'd like to extend it to registering COM components for the same reason.

Paul Tatavu has an entry in the FAQ here on UT that outlines the exact procedure to use for self-registration of .DLL/.OCX COM components; Out-of-process servers have a command line switch that can be used to force them to register. You could also simply call the ubiquitous REGSVR32 from within VFP to do the work for you.
