If a vendor does not have an evaluation policy or at least a 30-day money-back guarantee policy for me to evaluate new software, I will move on and find something else. In my view, if a vendor or company trying to sell me a product does not have enough confidence to be able to either provide a timed demo version or a 30-day trial period, then their product is questionable.

If there is a product I really need, I also solicit opinions here if applicable. I will use a licensed product on my home and office computer IF the license allows for this. Because of the position I am in, I am probably on someone's audit list and can not afford to be caught with illegal software. Our government is serious about this and the penalties are very high in terms of a monetary fine much less any jail term.

I have had customers try to get me to use someone else's software but have never done so because the customer is at minimal risk compared to the risk I would be taking. Beside the customer could eventually report you if they get p****ed of at you and then deny any knowledge on their part.

On your point about the Dutch and English version of software, I might have done the same thing. I would have made darn sure the English version was NOT installed anywhere and safeguarded that license. Then I would make sure the alternate language version was the the same or earlier release. However, we do have computer events here where used software can be legally bought and sold. I would have resorted to that first to see if I could sell my copy then buy the language version I needed.
