Your problem could be due to a number of things. As far as public variables go, it's generally a good idea to use custom properties instead. I only use one public variable - that of the application object.

I know that much of this is quite different from FoxPro 2.x. Some of this stuff takes awhile to grasp, but it's worth it.

If you are using VFP 6.0, study the FFC (foundation classes). Also, get a few books, learn all you can from the UT, and dive-in. There is much to learn no matter how much you know.
