Charlotte,

Not sure if this will help, but the dot matrix printers I've used allow you to adjust the horizontal position of the tractors that guide the fan-fold paper. Generally speaking, dot matrix printers do not sense the position of the tractors so there is no way for software to automatically adjust for different physical settings of the tractors. If the left tractor of each of your printers is at a different place, relative to "physical" column 0 of its printer, this would explain why you get different alignments with different printers.

My dot matrix printer has some hash marks that clearly indicate where the printer 'thinks' column 0 is physically located. I suggest that you always insure that the left tractor is positioned so that the paper is aligned with physical column 0, then adjust the left margin in software so that your printed lines start just to the right of the perforation. (Note: sometimes the driver does this for you automatically...go into printer setup and see what options are available for your respective printers). Alternatively, you could align the perforation with physical column zero and then set a margin of 0 in the printer setup.

If you align both printers in this fashion, you should be able to go back and forth between the two without any problems.

(This is clearly a case where a picture is worth a thousand words!)
