Ok.

Here is a simple example that will represent what I am trying to do.

I have a source ASCII file with two fixed length columns. The first is a date in the form YYYYMMDD and the second is a 10-character ID. I want to transform the date to MM/DD/YYYY and disregard the ID and pass the transformed date to a target ASCII file.

Obviously, this is a simplified version of my reality, but if I can understand the DTS construct to perform this, I think I can figure out the rest.
