Have a look at characters 183 to 194 in Windings (they look like a clock). When I don't know how long a process will take I just display a fixed message and change the "advance" character to show something moving.

>in the old days i was able to get by with a flasing proceesing... on dos screen to let my users know that their app. was running. i see that vfp has progress boxes showing percentage complete when someting is going on. I tried using the progress thermometer but that does not seem to do what i am looking for. The problem is if you dont know how long a process will take or dont know what the increment of the progress bar will be how do you apply this.
