here are all sorts of things like disk volume IDs that you can get at, and some manufacturers put an ID in their BIOS, but there's no standard AFAIK.

If you compile a C function to use standard C-style calling conventions, and do not require callback functions, you should be able to access the functionality in most C-style .DLLs throug DECLARE DLL.
