There's no standard hardware ID accessible for the disk, nor is there unique information embedded in the motherboard system ROM that can reliably be referenced on a cross-manufacturer basis; that's part of the reason behind Intel's initiaitive for embedding a unique CPUID in the Pentium III processors.

IOW, there's nothing available without adding hardware yourself to the system and checking for its presense that will work on all (or even most) systems.
