I am looking for a procedure to prevent users from installing and running unauthorized copies of a program.

Is there any way that I can access the bios number?

I am thinking that I will have the users phone in to register their copy of the program. At that time they would read their bios number to me over the phone, I would perform a conversion on that number and read back to them an authorization number which would activate their copy of the program. I would store this authorization number in a table and check it against the bios number each time the program is run.
