>I'm 16 and going into my final year of highschool (I know the picture is really bad) and I need to know what I should be looking at as far as after HS. I'm pretty sure I want to Code as a career (as long as my Rock Band doesn't take) and I'm also sure I'm going to go to a 4 year state university unless I get good argument against it.. Any recomendations as far as which schools and what programs and classes I'll need?
Some general things:
- talk to working professionals in the specific field that you are choosing (and also the people that hire them) find out what they have and what people are looking for in formal education
- sign up for summer work interships (we call it Co-op up here) in the industry. Go for jobs where you will learns tons and have a wide variety
- during your summer or other semester breaks earn your MCP, CNA, MCSD or MCSE certifications related to your interest
I recommend a degree since you are young. It gives you a great theoretical background and rounds out your education with other courses. Don't be scared to take specialty courses from private or tech schools while in University.
