Well guys, thanks for the enlightenment. It makes perfect sense, but that's another one for the list of things that can bite ya! In this case it looks like a line of code that was copied and commented to show the way it "use to be" before a change, but unfortunately that line of code was out of the middle of a SELECT and had the ; at the end. They told me that part of the application has had the problem "forever".
