Paul, I was in the same boat a few months ago. I didn't care for the user having to remember to hit CTRL+0 to enter a null. So I created a right-click popup that is part of my control's sub-class that allows for, among other things, selecting a null value.

I think I've got the source for it somewhere if you'd like.

It's especially handy on checkboxes.
