Thank you everyone for your replies. There appears to be a consensus. Do NOT store the pictures in the database. Your feedback has saved me a lot of trial and error. Thanks again for sharing your experiences.

>I'd recommend saving them externally and putting a reference to the files in the database. I've tried both storing it internally and externally in a mugshot application and the external method is safer and more flexible because you can move your images onto whatever storage medium you chose without moving the database there too (ie CD-ROM, WORM, SAN, etc.)
