It seems that when I get to line 2185, an error message is created saying 'invalid coordinates'. This is true whether device is set to screen or file. Any suggestions on a more proper way to due this? On some files, I cannot have line feeds or carriage returns at the end of the lines.

you could use low level file functions instead.
