>I heard from somewhere that folks come out with Special Computer Degrees and people don't want them in general, I guess because the stereotype is that their to cocky in their knowledge of outdated technology.
>Can anybody back that up?

I don't know of any employer that are biased against degrees but doesn't mean there aren't any. In fact I have seen more jobs that require Bachelor degrees than when I first entered the work force (1991).

In the late 80's and early 90's our two universities were quite outdated with real-world technologies. The tech schools and 2-year colleges (and even private universities) came up the middle with lots of cutting edge courses. Both universites have since learned their lessons and are once again leaders.

I once read a paper (I think it was Whil Henzten) he talked about the difference between a technical guru vs a person with a computer science degree that hasn't open a magazine or a book in 4 years.

After flapping my gums for awhile... I think you are doing the right thing. Asking questions here on the Universalthread and other people working in the field.
