>>In Vancouver the universities offer degrees in "Computer Science" (what I have). Some of the fiesty tech schools have been a bachelor of Information Technology. There are also some niche degrees like "Management and Information Systems" which are half biz half computer.

>I heard from somewhere that folks come out with Special Computer Degrees and people don't want them in general, I guess because the stereotype is that their to cocky in their knowledge of outdated technology.

>Can anybody back that up?

Well that's the stereotype they're showing us in movies and on T.V. In the real world those computernerds don't make it through the universaty. In our business it's very important to communicate with both computers and people. One person who does know everything about VFP and can't communicate with people will propably never deliver a good piece of software to clients.

Especially where the software is complex and must serve many users with different backgrounds and occupations you'll have a very strong advantage over these 'computer nerds' if you have very good human communication skills.

This human communication skills is one of the most undervalued piece of software development in general. When you look arround you, you'll likely notice that all people in important functions do have these communication skills and that these 'computer nerds' are doomed to do what they are doing know for they're entire carreer (of course there are always exceptions).
