<< I personally feel that app generators do not allow enough customization. Ideally, I would choose to create my own framework for an app. >>

I know what you're saying, but I have found FoxExpress extremely customizable. Yes, you do have to invest time to customize and before you customize it you have to understand what they are doing before you can intrude on their code with your code. That's true of anyone else's solution that you must massage. However, they have offered you so much code and so many canned menus, toolbars, and procedures thaty they do save you a lot of work.

You can customize their work to make it fit your preferences.

My main bitch (and doesn't apply so much anymore) with FoxExpress for FoxPro for Windows 2.6 is that everything is forced to be event-driven and when, it was first introduced, the micros I had to work with were extremely slow with the infamous foundation read event-driven model.

If you're satisfied with writing your own framework, I say go ahead and do it. I didn't have that kind of time and still don't. FoxExpress gets me up and running in very little time on most apps I have to deliver. I guess we should emphasize the word "Express." If you want to create a work of art or a monument to yourself <g> or a very complex app, roll your own. My apps are for in-house use only and are not marketed to external clients, although a few have occasionally used them. You would have to spend more time on an app if you were going to market it externally as you would have a lot more unknowns than I have sitting in my 1500 employee office.
