You can set up two printer definitions, one landscape and one portrait, then, if you have a way to distinguish landscape from portrait, your report wrapper can detect this and SET PRINTER TO... for the user.
A bit of a pain, agreed, but once I set this up in early '97 it's been working great ever since.
