Obviously you are not experienced at low level serial port handling <s>. This is good! It gets real deep real fast. When dealing direct with serial ports you must initialize buffers, set UART parameters at the biary level, etc. This is what I was getting at, wether you were dealing at a high or low level with the hardware. Obviously your at the higher level. Still do not know why fopen()/fclose() will not work for you. If you close the port & then reopen it Fox 'should' reinitialize the port for you.
Oh well, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. =;+)
