Thanks Narendra & Larry,

I did try adding the statements to the NET.CFG and created a SHELL.CFG in the same directory (C:\APPS_NI\NOVELL) with the Set files = 99 statement.
Unfortunately, this did not cure the problem - is there any any configuration that VFP itself needs to set the file handle count?
