Bear with me on this stupid question, but... do you mean you actually have a tag in a CDX file named DELETED()? How about doing the same thing except something where the tag is called DELETED instead. INDEX ON DELETED() TAG DELETED OF MYDATA.CDX ADDITIVE or something to that effect.
