Well, I just created a screen called TEST (original, huh.. <g>)
I then ran the form and while it was still running I typed the following:
a) ? vartype(_screen.activeform.barf)
b) I received U back
I then added barf as a property and repeated step a above. a 'L' was returned.
I then edited the property, types in a '0' (zero). When repeating step a above a 'N' was returned.
I then simply deleted the zero (which turns the property into a Character type by default) and received a 'C' back.
Perhaps you could post a simple example of what's not working?
Don't know if this matters but I'm runninf SP3...
Regardless of what the docs say (and I quite agree they need improving!) or do not say, and unless I'm misunderstanding you everything seems to me to work as advertised.
