>Is there an ActiveX command or FP function I can use to check whether a CD-ROM drive exists on the running machine, and also what the drive letter (C:,D:,E:,..) the CD-DRIVE is assigned to.

There are Win32 API caqlls to do both; if you look in the Files Section here on UT, you'll find several classes that can handle these tasks without ever looking at the API yourself.
