In that case is there anyway to to my main VFP window invisible (infact i newer even want it to open). If I have to use this alternative can my new top-level form completly replace the main VFP window without any loss of functionality?

No, you can't add your own statusbar directly to main screen, at least you couldn't in vfp5. You can try something like dropping the statusbar into a toolbar, and then bottom-docking it...

I use top-levels with my own statusbar (activex) class for everything now, with main screen always hidden. My feeling is that top-levels are superior to the main screen method, because you have more control, and it's a more Windows standard way of doing things. Hiding the main screen is a piece of cake, just put SCREEN = OFF in the config.fpw
