Personally I wouldn't say it is "useless", but as far as using it for developing a database application there is a lot of work to do to get it functioning the way VFP come "out of the box". I believe this is 'by design' because VB is not a database too, like VFP is. Then again, you don't see people writing games in VFP, but many do use VB to do that. I'm not saying that VB is only for game development either. The point is that each tool has its strengths, VFP is a strong database tool, VB is great for things like controls, games, and other general purpose programming. I agree with Craig that doing database development for anything of significance my first choice is VFP. If I need a new control I might use VB. If I needed to write a compiler I'd skip both and go to C++... simply picking the right tool for the job.

I also agree with Craig about his other points on comparing VFP with Access. It goes right to the heart of the matter in a very concise way.
I just wanted to see what was meant by including that other comment about the friend. I also think every tool has its use.
