>Pro : quick and easy : no more executable is in use anymore
>Contra : what to do when the database is updated together with the executable (which doesn't happen as often as program updates). In this context would it be nice to be able to give the DBC some kind of version number that you can check the program's version against.
I use three version numbers:-
In the data file:
One for the DBC
In the program:
One for the program
One for the MINIMUM data file version that the program will work with.
When starting check that the DBC version is at least that required by the program BUT less than or equal to the program version.
If you update the DBC by changing its structure, you increment the DBC version to your new program version and old versions will report that they need upgrading.
Just my solution.
