I've seen this problem at least as far back as VFP5. (VFP3 may have done it too, but I didn't use it much so I can't say from firsthand experience.) So I think it may be something with the editor itself. It's particularly noticeable on older, slower machines, of course. I had VFP5 on a 486/66 with Windows 95 and observed the CPU usage jump to 100% while using the editor, after making a change, whereas in all other respects VFP5 ran pretty well on that box.

I realize this response doesn't address the specific issue raised by Marten in his original post, but maybe it helps shed some light on the scope of the problem. I'd sure love to know what causes it, too. BTW turning off syntax coloring makes no difference.
