Well, from the data storage standpoint, I think you're better off using a binary Memo field rather than a general field. That way you can use APPEND MEMO to get the pictures into the field and COPY MEMO to get them out.

Oh, and use the "AS 0" option for APPEND and COPY to ensure there is no codepage translation.
