It sounds more like something is closing tables when not required. Maybe you have some code somewhere that says USE or USE IN xxx which is calling the wrong work area? Does this happen after hitting a certain button, or exiting a certain field? Is there some kind of pattern. If you hit a limit, it will tell you - you won't lose aliases, you just won't get them.
