Have you tried looking into the Cab viewer utility which is part of the TweakUI bundle of utilities? It's offered by Microsoft (not sure if it's supported or not) but may offer some insight into how to do this, unless Microsoft has other references to CAB files on their site. Also, I know that with VB, an application is packaged in CABs and the source code to the setup program is part of the sample apps, so maybe that would offer some insight.
