That was my area of study too. Before I went back to school in the late '80s, I basically (no pun intended) taught myself BASIC, 6502 assembler, and Pascal. I picked up the Pascal because I knew I was going to have it in school and wanted to have a jump on things. I don't think I'd be anywhere near the programmer I am today without the education in college.
