>i have foxpro lan for dos ver 2 It is not y2k compatible however i like the programs and as you can see they have worked for many years. i have searched the internet for solutions and complete horizons has a fix but not for foxprolx which they say is an extended version. my question is

>(A) can i buy a different dos based program that i could convert my programs and data files into and then i could use their fix.? or

You could upgrade to Foxpro 2.6 for DOS or Windows, this would require fewer changes to your program than moving up to Visual Foxpro. Y2K info for Fox2.6
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/year2k/product/user_view69176EN.htm

>(b)if i went to visual foxpro would my dbf files convert and would my programs all have to be re-worked.

You can convert a Foxpro application to Visual Foxpro, but I wouldn't recommend it.

Convert:
- after tweaking code your program should work
- will have to adjust dos display to look good in Windows
- will have a very slow interface compared to the DOS system
- will have taken advantages of none of the new features of Visual Foxpro
- screens will be difficult to modify and maintain because of the amount of code needed to get Visual Foxpro act like Foxpro

Rewrite:
- will learn VFP and have more uptodate skills
- the program will be simpler and easier to maintain
- your users will have access to advanced features they have become to expect in other MS products
