I was nine and on a family vacation on the road to the Grand Canyon. My brother, two sisters and I were riding in the camper. Mom and dad, in the cab of the truck, tried to play the radio through the intercom for us, but we couldn't hear it. Dad pulled off the road and we all clibed into the cab to listen to the landing on the radio. I remember looking both directions down the road. Every car, truck, camper, etc. had done the same thing we did. It was if nothing else was happening.
