No degree - 2 years at Ga Tech, but Dad died and I took over family business before I could finish - should have finished later, just to pass the 'litmus test' that I think is so ridiculous. I'm still convinced that nobody actually ever learns anything practical in college - I went through enough to know that.

Anyway, I got a real education instead - coming up through the ranks of business and self study - not to mention wannabee rock musician for way too long :-)

What's interesting is this, and I'll probably get bashed for it, (and I don't claim to be completely non-biased) but by in large it's people WITHOUT degrees, who have done it own their own that I've found to be the best programmers, the best workers, and have the best feel for 'real world business problems'. Maybe it's just that of all the programmers I've ever met that were absolutly awful, not-a-clue, couldn't stick their floppy disk in their ear with both hands .... they all had degrees!

And maybe I've just been around the wrong crowd, but this applies not just to programming or technical skills, but their general education as well. The thing you see on Leno sometimes about college grads who can't name the first president, what continent France is on, or the century the civil war was fought in ... well ... geez guys and gals, I've seen it all over the place in real life. In fairness, maybe it's just more recent grads - last 7-10 years. I DO know people with degrees who are brilliant programmers and project managers, IT execs, etc. - but they are typically my age (37) or older.

In any case, I'll stick to my old saying ...
an ounce of experience is worth a pound of education ...
an ounce of talent is worth a ton of education ...

BTW - any good programmers who have a hard time getting into big companies because of the degree test, give me a call!

Good day!
Ken
