As a self taught FoxPro 2.6 user, I know there are things I do that may make some people cringe. My company I work for gave me a few books and said to learn it. I then had to learn our development tool. Again no formal training. Even if I read all the books I could get my hands on, there are still methods that are not covered in books. But of course, I didn't memorize the books. I learned somethings and got to working. I've learned a lot along the way but I'm sure some training would have helped in my code's efficiency. I think a lot of people are that way. They learn a few things and stick with what works. It may not be the best way to do it but it works.

Now I'm in the process of learning Visual FoxPro 6.0. Talk about a learning curve! It might not be so bad if I could devote myself to the new version but I must maintain and add to the old code (I'm the one and only programmer) while I try and learn the new. There are times I can go weeks between touching the new version. I would love to go to training but that just doesn't look like it is going to happen. I've had problems finding any good books to learn from. So I know that when I finally get to concentrate on converting all of our packages to the new version they will not be as good as they could be.

Yes, I could pay for my own training but I don't live in a city that offers anything. The local junior college may offer how to use FoxPro as an application but not how to program it. I would have to spend a considerable amount of money to get the training. At this point, I just have to live with what I can pick up on my own.

Ok, I shut up now. I've whined enough!
