I just want to add a thought:

IMHO, there is usually not a real good reason that someone can maintain a lock on a record for more than a few moments. I think that the code should lock, do something, then release the lock. I don't think there should ever be a case where there is some user interaction required when a record is locked. If there is, then the user can walk away and leave other people waiting on them.

Now, maybe you have a case where a lock needs to be used for a possibly long time. But if not, I would suggest that maybe the code needs to handle the locking differently.

I am making some assumptions here, so if my comments don't apply, please ignore.

Also, you might be well aware of the SET REPROCESS command, but if not, you might want to have a look at it; it might make sense in your situation to modify the setting.

Joe
