>>>>Does any have some general info on how many hits a single server running NT and IIS can handle at one time, per day, per month? I don't need anything specific, maybe just what you have seen through personal experience. We are going to be purchasing a server and I need to have some idea how big of a box to buy. Thanks,

>>>Shane, funny you ask this. I just posted a FAQ on VFP capacity which includes two reference to VFP internet servers. Click on "new" and scroll to the bottom.
>>>From Rick Strahl's site he was peaking at 500,000+ per day with VFP/NT and IIS.

>>Thanks Evan, that's what I was looking for. Our server is for a select audience, only about 550 users. And they only need access 2 or 3 times a month at peak times. So I am sure a single server will be more than sufficient. If this goes well we will add more to the web but we can always add additional servers later if need be.

>Heed the advince of Ed Rauh though. You particular setup will dictate the actual traffic you can reasonably handle. If you can convince you boss to have a contingency plan to upgrade the processors, add a processors or some RAM if things aren't as snappy as expected.

I plan to buy a dual-processor machine, but with just one processor to start with. Start with 128 meg of ram with plenty of upgrade room. And dual 9 Gig hard drives with a RAID card so I can have some fault-tolerance. I only expect a peak of 500-1000 hits in day to start with. I am going to use Rick Strahls foxisapi.dll and examples from his book on VFP and the Internet to run two seperate applications. Both of which are once a year reports for the 550 users, that thankfully happen at different times of the year. I want to add two other applications that will be used monthly by the 550 users and daily by inhouse people. ALthough this will probably be a stand alone app just accessing data and not over the web.
