Nope, This is by design. See article Q156510

I tend not to use the dropdownlist anymore. I alway use a autocomplete combobox for the job. When you bind the combo to a controlsource, the combo goes blank when an invalid value has been inputed. The main advantages are that you can use the readonly property (handy if you want to disable all controls on a form or page at once with the setall method) and that you don't have the undisered behaviour that when your skipping trough the input objects with DNARROW or UPARROW the dropdownbox changes its value instead of moving to the next (or prior) object.
