I think this is including me too :) I can assure you I'm one person :) So much one person that before inet access and UT I was having thought "I'm the only one using fox". Only 32 members from Turkey now :)
- Maintain web pages
No. I'm not capable of that.
- Visit other pages
Very rarely.
- Provide consulting services
Who doesn't.
- Know a lot about other development technologies
I don't even know a lot about Fox.
- Write books, articles etc.
No I don't.
- Have a family
Yes and I love them :) But don't ask them the same question :)
- Assist to conferences
No.
- Speak at conferences
No.
- Maintain your third party products
I'm not lucky enough to have 3rd party. Mine shared code is provided to community as is so I don't really have a strong feeling to maintain them. I do if I do it for myself.
- Chat
Yes. Think of any chat time, live or virtual.
- ¿¿Work??
Aha. That's my most time consuming process. But I do love it.Besides other things above, I manage our institutes hw&sw + write code for Engineerica comp.(US) on an hourly basis. I need money for my family too.
Most of members don't know this but I'm originally graduated from a medical school and an MD :) Surprised ? Dropped working as an MD about 5-6 years ago (reasons are personal). W/o having anything on paper stating you can code you can't guess how hard it's to make customers believe you could do it. Futher you use a "well promoted" language :) You should prove yourself some way. Maybe that force was my secret. I had to be good (that doesn't mean I pretend I'm good).
I have suffered of resources for many years. Then I had an inet account :) Well UT is my best resource and simply I accept it as my tutorial. I learned many tips/techniques from UT. Plus whenever I have a process that on myself would take to resolve more than an hour I ask it on UT and save many hours. Those saved hours make some extra time.
Somehow I should pay for my appreciation. I do it by contributing to UT. And believe me I wasn't aware that I was a top 50 poster till I earned my PUTM status at May :) Paying no money to UT made me feel more responsible to pay it else way.
And another important reason : I do it because I have been always impressed with the UT community's willingness to share their knowledge. In a world with such a technical rival how many people step on each other to help their rivals ? I'm lucky I know 25000+ of them :) They were the ones that got me to an MVP status from MS. Up till now that MVP status only provided me the blue envelope (certificates they sent would be the first "on paper" things stating I can code if weren't arranged with someone else's name :) but I'm sure MS should be in trouble with shipping to Turkey :)
