I tried something during last week and got good results:
I designed the report for my Epson FX-1170, using TruType font: Courier New 12 Pts (It means pitch = 10 cpi on the paper).
Don't use graphics, lines, rectangles, etc.
You can preview the report exactly as you designed it.
Before printing, select Generic Printer, manually or via software (set printer to name ...)
Select font using printer buttons or sending codes: Normal or Condensed.
Send report to printer
